BIO
Brinson Renda is a video artist, editor and independent curator who is driven by an incredible passion for self-expression through art and technology. Her works are often noted for their exploration in gender roles, deviant style, awkwardness and sarcasm, as she takes pleasure in your uncomfortable thoughts towards her work. Brinson utilizes a variety of styles that blends appropriation, glitchy-choppy / seizure-like video to convey the ideology behind her aesthetic. Her interest in art mingling with technology has sparked a new series of curatorial and video works that are ongoing, as she mixes conceptual nature in an interactive context with the interwebs and live editing. Either during the midst of a DIY, conceptual project or just having fun creating an atmosphere for party goers, Brinson [aka VJ Edit Monster] also performs her video work live; inspired by the act of creating an impromptu videoscape to influential audioscapes.
She is currently the Editor of ArtCards.cc [MIAMI], an online publication that 'brings you to art' and a contributing writer on the sister site, Artcards Review. Also, she is a multi-media freelancer; specializing in video editing, content creation (3D motion graphics + print) and AV consulting. Her background includes a BFA from the University of South Florida, a Strategic Marketing internship, Photo-Editor for the Oracle newspaper, Assistant Editor + Production Coordinator at a Digital Signage company and a Final Cut Pro Workshop Instructor; which makes her multi-faceted in the macrocosm that is art, design and technology.
Brinson also currently engages in the art world as an independent curator. Her first project was called, Digi-a-GO-GO! This was a pop-up exhibition held in the heart of Wynwood Miami, during Art Basel 2009. It focused on showcasing various types of multi-media to the public. The works included interactive video installations & performance, experimental narratives, motion-graphics, animations & 2D works from over 20 artist. In October 2010, she co-curated an interactive exhibition called, The Drift. This was a multi-casted and meta-physical project based on Guy Debord's theory of The Dérive, broadcasted live on the Internet with 3 states participating in the physical exhibitions. These projects have initiated an ongoing interest in connecting artists and art lovers alike beyond a physical state of interaction.
Brinson has recently finished up her year long residency ('10-'11) this June at the Creative Alliance in Baltimore, MD. Freshly settled back in South Florida, her mission in life at this point is to tackle more software, continue to collaborate on creative projects, make video, showcase the many facets of video art to the public and to keep working with creative clientele in order to pursue my artistic ventures.
“Digital technologies are the landscape of the present. Digital techniques further enhance the believability of manipulated images, even when they are bizarre and unquestionably inauthentic.” - Lynn Hershman-Leeson
