The Drift Project / 2010
(A multi-casted & meta-physical project based on
Guy Debord’s theory of the Dérive)
This project is developed and curated by Scott Vollmar [Columbia, SC] Grad student at USC - co-curated by Daniel Moore [Tampa, FL] Grad student at USF - and Brinson Renda [Baltimore, MD] Artist in Residence at the Creative Alliance. The Drift will be a one-night exhibition that celebrates and explores an artist’s movement through his or her medium. The idea of the Drift, as best defined by the Situationists is: an unconscious yet willing movement from one place to another; the leisure activity of letting oneself be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.
“Dérives involve playful-constructive behavior and awareness of psychogeographical effects, and are thus quite different from the classic notions of journey or stroll.”
On October 14th 2010, from 6-9pm, the 3 curators will be guiding their visitors
simultaneously and virtually, to and from these different spaces, in an
interactive show piece that will invite people to wander both physically and
mentally through these multiple exhibitions. Utilizing ‘Ustream,’ each
exhibition will be broadcasted live on the Internet as well as projected in
each space. Artworks will explore the concepts of movement, wandering, terrain
and architecture in relation to the artist or wherever they might project
themselves. Artwork included in these exhibitions will incorporate all mediums
such as: Video, 2D, sculpture, mixed media, installation & performance art.
